Igor
Morski
The Polish artist, graphic artist, press illustrator and stage designer.
In 1986 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Interior Architecture and Industrial Design at the Academy of Fine Arts (presently, the University of Arts) in Poznań. At the beginnings of his career he designed stage sets for various theater, cultural, news and current affairs programmes.
The begging of the 90’s opened up new opportunities. The developing computer technology allowed for the creative process to be gradually moved to virtual reality. Unlike many graphics of the young generation, Igor rapidly developed his skills in this area. It led to realization of the first commercial orders with the use of computer. Igor remained connected with Poznań. His first computer modified works were the posters ordered by the Poznań International Fair.
The development of the graphics software and digital photography significantly increased the capacity and added new dimension to the concept of surrealism – the boundaries between the reality and the sphere of illusion and pure artistic imagination began to disappear. Igor Morski was undoubtedly the forerunner of this direction.
At the beginning of the 90’s he began his collaboration with the weekly “Wprost”, the leading magazine of the changing economic reality in Poland, which he remained associated with – as the graphic commentator and illustrator – for the next two decades.
The world of images created in Morski’s imagination and transferred to the computer screen is perceived by many quite literally – a border point between real, physical reality and the space reserved for the author’s imagination is hard to define. Igor defines himself as a photo manipulator, for whom the process of creation involves the idea forming, finding and photographing certain elements, building the 3D models and finally, incorporating them into the composition.
Simultaneously, thanks to the combination of new opportunities and the artist’s talent, the function of press illustrations created by Igor changed. The surrealistic illustrations complemented the story told by the author of an article or unveiled new visual semantic perspective:
“My illustrations are not the text decorations, but have become its intellectual complementation” – Igor Morski says about his works and it is hard not to agree with his point of view.
Morski’s graphics published in “Wprost” aroused interest and admiration. Buyers started lining up outside his studio. His works were presented, among others, in Newsweek, Polityka, Gazeta Wyborcza, Duży Format, Playboy, Focus, Manager Magazine, Charaktery. They were also regularly were published in the number of the international magazines such as the American ‘Delloitte Review’, the Australian ‘Prevention’, Sydney Morning Herald, Money, ITB, Men’s Health, Woman’s Health, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Businessweek, Businessman Magazine.
Igor Morski is the winner of the number of prestigious rewards, inter alia Communication Arts Excellence Award (2008, 2010) and Applied Arts Award (2010).
Worked for well-known advertising agencies, such as Abelson Taylor, Saatch&Saatchi, Mill, RTOP Philadelphia USA.
In 2012 Igor Morski left Poznań which he had been connected with for over 50 years of his life. He moved to Ibiza first and then settled on Majorca permanently. He lives and works in Palma de Mallorca, where he appreciates the climate, close contact to nature, and direct and warm relations with people.
