The nature of garbage

The collection of graphics built of garbage. The series of compositions that forcibly shorten the mental gap between the objects of our admiration and the gigantic amount of the waste product formed during the development of civilization.

Our first journey together will be tough – we are going to crash into the filthy reality. We are going to take you to the world in which Igor Morski points out how your everyday choices and activities affect our planet.

Do you belong, just like Igor, to the group of 87% of the Europeans who experience anxiety about the effect that plastic products have on the environment? According to the European Commission, almost 26 million tons of plastic waste is generated in Europe every year. Is it much? Our imagination may be straightened by the image of the Great Pacific garbage patch that is drifting on the ocean. Its weight is estimated at 45-129 thousand tons with its total area equaling 1,6 million km². The surface area of Poland equals to 0,312 million km².

Take a good look at your surroundings. What can you see? Do you have a plastic pen, plastic computer mouse, face cream in a plastic jar? Are you having lunch from a plastic box using plastic cutlery at work today? Most likely, there are a large number of single use devices in your immediate surroundings. We understand that you cannot imagine the world without the technology and its facilities. Neither can we. What is important, however, is to make use of the opportunities that the development of civilization is offering us in an ethical way, for example by replacing the single use products with the products that can be used for years.

In Igor’s works you can see the constant presence of waste in your surroundings. Not only the cars being surrounded by the mountains of garbage as in the landfill somewhere, but also the sea lion, symbolizing the animal kingdom, plastered with cans, bottles and food products wrappers dumped into the oceans. It is worth noting that 80% of all waste in the oceans is plastic. Apart from the works with the litter pictured on the background, Igor has created the portraits of the garbage itself forming certain shapes and telling stories independently. The natural environment tries to break through the surface of broken utensils, scattered plastic caps, or the goods bought on a whim.

This history finale depends on us – humans.
